Lab599 TX500MP Digirig mobile settings

Hello everyone,

I recently received the new TX500MP radio, and I must say—it’s a fantastic piece of equipment, especially for the kind of work I do in remote and rugged environments. However, I’m currently facing some challenges with setting up digital modes, specifically VaraHF and FT8.

My main goal is to use the TX500MP for radio email (Winlink) and occasional keyboard-to-keyboard communications while operating in remote areas. I’m attempting to configure everything using a Digirig Mobile interface and custom cables based on the schematics shared in this forum thread.

At the moment, CAT control isn’t working for me, although I’ve seen online that Gaston managed to get it working. I’m hoping to start a discussion here to help others who might be in the same situation and to gather more insights as the number of TX500MP users grows.

Any help, suggestions, or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks & 73,
Rob (YO7ZRO)

Rob,
Is your Digirig Mobile configured for TX-500? There are solder pads that needs to be bridged in order to supply 3.3V to radio’s optical isolator for serial lines.

Hi there Denis, thanks for the reply. My answer is: not. I am using the digirig module with ft857d. Should I modify both pads as it looks in your picture?

This is how it looks on the back side.

There is no need to bridge the pads labeled as “existing connections”. You’ll just need to bridge pads labeled 3V3

Hi there Denis. Sorry for my late reply, I was on field trip these days away from internet access. Well, I did modify the Digirig dongle, and now is working, I have CAT and sound. Now I need to figure out the best settings combination for DIG gain, output RF power.
