Hello All. I have a setup I have been using for APRS that works fine. Thought I would set it up to be able to work 2M when I’m not home. I have used RemoteHams sucessfully in the past with a CAT rig but thought I would give it a whirl on DigiRig. Here what I’m running into and it may be a work around.
I have to use VOX keying since this 2M radio is not a CAT rig. When I key in RemoteHams nothing happens until I talk. Understandable. But between syllables it drops out. Would be OK on SSB but on FM not so cool. Is there a way to keep the rig keyed for a delay period so it will not drop out ?
I don’t really have an answer for you with the lite, i don’t have one and haven’t tried to work with the vox that much.
i do have a digirig mobile connected to an icom ic-736 for all kinds of things including rcforb.
in my copy of rcforb i can choose cat command or serial rts/dtr toggling for PTT.
obviously that doesn’t help you with the digirig lite as that uses it’s own vox or gpio.
gpio would work great except, as far as i know, rcforb doesn’t support it.
hopefully someone else will chime in with a workaround but i’m thinking you’ll need another interface.
a digirig mobile would be a cable compatible drop in so that would be a good option.
(i know, you’d get c-iv control without a c-iv controllable radio)
Craig,
The VOX implementation in Digirig Lite and DR-891 is optimized for digital modes - minimal latency and hang time. This makes it a bit too fast for voice applications. Your Digirig also supports other PTT methods. See if the software can use PTT via GPIO3 (also known as PTT by RA Board, C-Media PTT or PTT by HID). As a fallback option check if your radio supports VOX internally.
