New digirig, no incoming audio

I bought a digirig kit at Huntsville hamfest that included the digirig mobile and the cable for the Icom ID-5100. If I understand correctly, this cable is used as an audio + PTT only cable without the CI-V control. I can’t receive any audio from the radio back to the computer. I can key the radio through the RTS line of the digirig serial port and I can send packets. I even get a reply from an RMS gateway according to my s-meter on the radio, but the packets don’t make it back to the computer. I’m starting to think I have a bad cable or a bad digirig.

What I’ve tried so far:
Win 11, win 10, Linux on bare metal, android. All of these detect the USB output, USB microphone, and usb-uart bridge. All of these were able to key the radio via RTS signal and transmit.

I tried plugging the part of the cable that goes to the speaker jack into the headphone port of my laptop. Still no audio detected from the USB microphone.

I tested the speaker jack on the radio with headphones and they work.

Is there anything else I can try? Thanks ahead of time for reading.

Did you try a different USB cable? I found the first one I tried seems to be a “charging only” cable. It seemed as though it only had the conductors necessary to charge a device battery. So I ordered a cable through DigiRig with the ferrites on both ends and it resolved the issue.

Hope this helps, 73

The cable that came with the kit is the coiled cable with the ferrites. The USB sound devices and the uart bridge appear in the device manager. I did try another cable just in case and the issue remains. Dennis has contacted me and is sending me a replacement digirig. I’ll report back here once it arrives.

At the risk of offending your knowledge of using a Digirig:

  1. Do you have the squelch of the radio set to 0?
  2. Do you have the volume of the radio set to about 1/3?

Don’t worry I don’t take offense easily. I’ve tried those settings, along with several other combinations. No matter what I’ve tried, I can’t get any audio of any kind from the radio back to the computer. Dennis is sending me another interface so we’ll know then whether it’s a bad part or not. I’ll come back here once I get the new Digirig.

I received the replacement Digirig today and it works great! The original is defective but Denis was on top of it and sent me a new one. Fantastic customer service! Thanks Denis for the prompt reply.
