Power output FT-891 / FT8

I am using digirig 891 and using the recommended settings such as HF Power 40, I have them all set.
But when the radio transmits on FT-8 it appears to be using 100W
Or am I missing something?

There are separate settings for different modes.
The one you want to modify for digital modes is: Menu 16-03 HF PWR
For additional settings recommendations please refer to the DR-891 manual:

Ok, yes I followed the directions, but strange the radio’s face is looking like it’s doing 100w on transmit, will post a photo soon.

You may be looking at something else other than RF power.

The display includes bar-graph indications of: power output, ALC voltage, SWR, speech processor compression level, drain current of the final stage FET, and signal strength.

Here is what I am seeing on the 891 while its transmitting.

I guess I need to put the radio into DATA mode and that will control the power. :cowboy_hat_face:

Ok now that the FT-891 is in data mode the FT8 sound coming out of the speaker is really strange and static-e
When I put the radio back into USB mode it sounds pure.

I know I am supposed to use DATA mode, so is the less than ideal sound of FT8 signals OK?

You probably have audio filtered with WDH or other feature. Please refer to the recommended settings here:
