I’m using the Anytone 778 cable on my Powerwerx DB-750b. I’m following N1SPW’s instructions for Windows 11 Sound Settings. I have the DigiRig Input and DigiRig Output set as “Default Communication Device” but NOT the “Default System Device”. I have another HT monitoring the WinLink Gateway frequency. I’ve turned off Squelch on the DB-750 and adjusted both the system volumes and the rig volume so the VU meter sits at approximately -11dB at idle. For VARA-FM’s “Settings>VARA Setup” I’ve chosen NARROW.
(Note: These are the same settings that work successfully with my Anytone D890.)
When I use VARA-FM’s “Settings>Sound Card>Auto Tune” I hear the sequence of 10 transmissions on my HT, so I know that DigiRig’s PTT activation is working, but every time the Auto-Tune ends with the “NO SIGNAL” warning.
can you key up the ht and see, on the vara fm ‘scope’, if the needle moves ?
(this would show if the audio from the radio is getting to the digirig and then to the pc)
2 things come to mind;
not enough rx audio (either radio knob or pc slider)
not close enough to gateway you are using auto tune.
you’ve adjusted the sliders so it may come down to distance.
using narrow, the input audio to the radio is very forgiving and you are listening to the output on another radio so i’m not thinking over driven tx audio.
do you hear/see any traffic from the gateway you’re using on the vara fm scope ?
(just an aside, default comm device tells windows to use that souncard for phone calls and similar. i wouldn’t use that. all my setups have the radio soundcard unset to either default)
(Starting from the bottom: I reset the Digirig soundcard - both input and output - to “Ready” rather than “Default Communication Device” and the Anytone 890 still connected to a gateway & sent a message. That’s good!)
Back to the top: With the Powerwerx connected to the Digirig & PC and the Anytone set to the same gateway frequency, I tune the Powerwerx so the VARA VU meter is at -12dB +/-. Then I press PTT on the Anytone and the VARA VU meter drops all the way to left (i.e. 9 o’clock). I don’t know what this means.
I also don’t understand how distance could be a factor, as the Anytone and the Powerwerx are right next to one another and tuned to the same gateway.
There’s no traffic this morning, so I don’t have any data about traffic showing up on the VARA-FM scope.
There’s one variable I haven’t mentioned: antennas. The Anytone HT has a SignalStick. The Powerwerx is connected to a mag-mount Comet 2x4 resting on a ground plane. I can’t see how this would make a difference…
