PTT issue with Digirig Mobile and Baofeng UV17

I have a new Digirig Mobile with factory cables for the Baofeng radio. I’m using W0AD on an Amazone Fire Tablet. I set up the Packet session as described in the posts I have read here concerning PTT. When I hit the Start for the session, the radio keys and locks up in tx and will not unkey until I unplug the USB cable. Also when the radio keys there is just carrier and no modulation.

I’m using the PTT USB RTS option and I the USB port correctly identified the Digirig. I’ve read the posts and can’t find anything contrary to what I’m doing. Any ideas?

Also radio is a Baofeng UV-17R. i i tried this on my Anytone 868 with the same results

Jim,
You are dealing with RFI. Your radio uses Digirig’s cables as a counterpoise for the antenna lacking a ground plane. This disrupts the USB communication. You can improve the situation with additional choking or by improving grounding and the antenna system.
