RMS PACKET using dual mode and one Digirg mobile

Hi, new to the forum, name is Phil ON4VP.

I’m using one Digirig mobile connected to a Yaesu FTM-300 with 9K6 cable.
I’ve installed RMS PACKET to create a Winlink gateway. Both VARA FM and PACKET AX25 work. VARA FM is set to use the RTS PTT port of the Digirig mobile. Direwolf is set to use the same port when used for PACKET.

Now RMS PACKET let you work as a dual mode gateway using Direwolf for packet over TCP and VARA FM using it’s own ini file. But here comes the problem. The first modem that gain control over the PTT port is happy, the second after starting replies in an error since the PTT port is taken.

Now I have only one antenna and transceiver to spare for setting up this gateway. Either I make a choise between VARA FM or PACKET but I was thinking of using virtual com port splitter to gain access to both apps using the same hardware RTS PTT port.

Is this possible ? Can I expect hardware problems ?
If anyone tried to use virtul comports as workaround, please let mr know your approach. I also asked Denis for support on this.

Hi again,

I’ve tried with comOcom and VSPE both 64-bit.
I don’t find a way to split the Digirig RTS PTT port using a virtual pair in comOcom.
However with VSPE I made a com-splitter that let you use a comm port and use it with multiple programs so I ended up splitting the Digirig port to use with both Direwolf for PACKET and VARA FM. The RMS PACKET software started up without errors. It seems to work so far with both engines running and waiting for connection.

Just my 2 cents info.
