Shorter cable for VX-5

Will a VX-6 R cable (I realize it will not thread in) work on my VX-5? Looking for a more compact cable for my kit. The coiled cord takes up considerable space in my portable tiny go bag.

I don’t have VX-5, but I tried VX-6R cable with FT5D and it worked for me.
Worth a try with VX-5.
