After using the Digirig Lite with a K1-style cable tethered to a phone, it occurred to me that a different cable design would be useful.
The coiled cable works, but it adds bulk and is unnecessarily long for handheld use. A short, non-coiled version would be much more convenient.
I assume the K1 connector’s orientation was designed so the cable runs toward the top of the radio. That makes sense when the radio is worn on a belt clip and a microphone cable runs up to a shoulder strap without kinking.
For a phone-tethered setup, however, that orientation is awkward. There is little reason for the audio cable to run alongside the antenna. It would be much more practical for the cable to exit toward the bottom of the radio.
The current orientation is also inconvenient when the radio is standing on a desk. With the K1 cable extending upward, the cable puts enough torque on the radio that it can be difficult to keep it standing in place.
A short, straight cable with the K1 connector oriented downward would make the Digirig Lite setup much cleaner for handheld and desktop use.
