Vero VR N-7500 Packet Decode

I wanna use my PC for APRS instead of the internal APRS. I made the cable to connect to my DigiRig and it will PTT perfectly, it will transmit a APRS beacon perfectly, but I can NOT get my pc to decode any packets being received. I open the squelch completely, and watching the audio waterfall on “sound modem” it looks like the packets aren’t getting sent through the audio cable for some reason. The waterfall almost goes blank when a signal comes in. Watching the HT app at the same time, the app is decoding the packets perfectly. Any ideas how to fix this? I have this working with several different rigs, this one just has me stumped…
I tried using the audio from the rj45 first, then remade the cable to use the 3.5 headphone jack on the back and it gave same results.

I saw on a 7500 instruction write up for Winlink this exact problem as well. He could get Vara FM working, but not packet.

does the radio have an ‘aprs mute’ function?

-the ability to mute the audio when detecting an aprs packet reception-

sorry, i’m not familiar with that particular radio but;
one other thing to try is if the radio is dual band/dual display, switch to the alternate.

on a kenwood, they’ll call it A band and B band.
i’ve got the mute function on A.
i can put the same frequency on B and i can ‘monitor’ when a packet comes back even though it is muted on A.

other ‘digital modes’ aren’t effected because they don’t contain a valid packet header.
noise is just noise in that case
:slight_smile:

good luck
