Newbie to 21st-century digital modes here (although I did run a packet system in the ‘90s
). We have an ancient Icom IC-2000 that, if it still works, I’d like to use to experiment with VARA FM mail. I see there’s a cable for the IC-2000
Suggestion on which Digirig to buy, the mobile or Lite, if I’m experimenting primarily in my home shack? And what configuration, logic levels or something else? It seems like “it doesn’t matter,” but I just want to make sure? Thanks.
the lite would be a good choice.
the ic-2000 doesn’t support CI-V/remote control so you don’t ‘need’ the comport of the mobile.
now, with the lite, your PTT options are vox (contained in the dr lite) or GPIO (also called cm108 and RA-board depending on the software used)
vara-fm supports gpio for ptt (ra-board) so it would be a good fit.
the mobile has RTS for ptt as well as CI-V/Cat command when the radio supports it.
good luck
