I have the zebra stripes so instead of attempting to repair the LCD, I want to get an external LCD which will plug into the cat port in the back so now I would need a Digirig Mobile Cable with RJ-45 mic to TRRS to use with my Digirig mobile in the mic Jack of my 897D. Will this work?
Oh wait, or do I need the Yaesu RJ-12 Cable to TRS for this this?
You’ll need Digirig Mobile in logic levels configuration, USB cable and Yaesu FT-8xx cable set. This will allow you to run CAT control from the computer using something like FlRig.
Yes, but the cat port in the back will now be used by an external LCD display, so I read that you can use the RJ mic port in the front of the 897D with a digirig and the RJ to TRRS cable instead of the regular digi rig cable for the 897D?
This is what I read. the front RJ-45 microphone port on the Yaesu FT-897D can be used for digital data modes, particularly as an alternative to the rear DATA port for audio input. By setting Menu 59 (MIC SEL) to “CAT,” you can also use this port for computer-aided transceiver (CAT) control when the rear CAT port is occupied.
Didn’t have a chance to test that personally, but if that’s the case as other operators report then you should be able to do it. There is no off-the-shelf cable for it though, you’ll have to homebrew one.
Nevermind, I can’t use that cable
The pins are different
