I’m a bit lost, all I got was the DigiRig dongle. I’ve seen the interfacing to the rig discussions, that bit, I can understand. So, what do Windows11 users use to talk to their DigiRig via USB ?
For VHF/UHF soundmodem, Vara FM. For HF, Vara HF, WSJT-x, fldigi, and some others. Rather than talk to the Digirig, I would say that the Digirig transparently presents the programs with an audio, control, and serial interface for the radio.
Install the correct drivers if needed. Then plug in and look for the PnP Audio devices and COM port.
Thanks Constrainted for the responses. I should have said at the outset that my desire is to get back into VHF Packet. 20+ years ago I used a Paccom Tiny2, homebrew interfaced to my Icom25E. The 25E survived my long inactivity, the Tiny2 didn’t. So now, having re-wired the rig interface for DigiRig, I’m looking for a Windows11 app that I can use to do Packet via DigiRig.
First, a quick review of how this lashes together. Think of the digital systems in layers. Each layer passes data to the next.
- Computer and you (keyboard, screen, memory, disk storage)
- Application (Winlink, EasyTerm, Outpost, etc,)
- Modem (Soundmodem, Direwolf)
- Digirig
- Radio
If you are doing what is called connected packet, the Outpost programs are good. APRS will need a different application and I will let others guide you to that.

For packet modem, I would suggest you start with Soundmodem. Direwolf is very good, but it is just a little harder to set up.
The radio set up is specific to your make and model. That should be in the operation manual.
If you have a Digirig, you will need the cable that goes between your radio and the Digirig. I’ve only tried two but it was plug and play.
One caveat. I have not run these programs on Windows 11, only Windows 10 and Linux. But, I know from the forums I watch that they are being used on Win 11.
Hope this helps.
