Yaesu FT-70D HT -> Digirig Lite -> iPhone 16 -> Radio Mail

Just trying to connect to local winlink using radiomail:
Digirig-Lite (Digirig Lite – digirig)
Yaesu HT Cable (Yaesu HT Audio/PTT Cable – digirig)
Yaesu FT-70D
iPhone 16 with USB-C
RadioMail 1.5.0(1)

I’m wondering if anyone has connected these devices and gotten the audio interface to work correctly. I’m seeing just a flash on the transmit side, PTT is on much longer on the digirig lite and with another radio local I’m not able to hear any transmit on the frequency or even see a carrier key up.

I would suspect that it was related to the cabling if it all weren’t provided by digirig.

– Edit –
Also worth noting that I haven’t been able to get it working using another setup (all digirig) through a Baofeng variant.

@k0tx thanks for the edit on the tags, I’ll do better in the future.

Digirig Lite is optimized for use with the mobile platforms and iOS being one of the biggest is well represented when it comes to successful integrations.

When it comes to use of interfaces with HTs, the antennas are very compromised and as a result the RFI is often a factor. It manifests itself as everything working on receive and then interface gets kicked out from USB or errors displayed when trying to transmit.

The quick way to rule out RFI issues is to use a dummy load for antenna. Lower TX power and additional choking on the accessory cables may also help but not guaranteed.

Just for tracking purposes on this chat I’d like to say that I’ve tried 2 different antenna’s on this and changed power from High to Medium and to Low

RR. None of the mounted antennas offer sufficient counterpoise. If you have an external antenna with a choked feedline, that would be a good test.

I didn’t previously have a dummy load but now have one on the way to help chase this down. One of the antennas that I’ve done significant testing with actually was an external antenna to the shack that is choked so I’ll get back to the forum with the results as soon as possible.

Okay, so I’m having the same issue even with having the dummy load (100w) attached. Not sure where to go from here.

Oddly enough I found this to be related to the volume on my iOS device to being all the way up, not sure if this is a soundcard thing or related to something else that there’s an issue. When the volume is all the way up on by iOS device the digirig lite just flashes on and then right back off… never sending for packets

Going to go make a note for that in my how to documentation.

Thank you for the update. Maybe the USB host fails to keep the voltage power up with the increased volume causing the reboot of the interface. Did you have a chance to try the same setup on another computer/tablet/phone?
