Now I have PTT working, when the drive level in windows is set very low, 1-3 of 100.
But I get no detectable adio into the computer.
I use minidin6 from the data jack on the FT8100R.
I have the original 9600 cable from Digirig and a homebrew cable set up to use the 1200 pin and I have tried both the 9600 and 1200 settings on the radio with both cables.
I maxed the level of audio into the computer in the windows setting and switch on “listen to this device” but hear nothing.
With a proper cable from my HT I get good audio and aprs detection, so I do not suspect the Digirig unit as such.
I also can detect audio and aprs traffic with the same FT8100 and digirig when using a speaker+rj11 cable combo, but the audio is not so nice out in that port from the radio.
I read in another post about :
" There is a hardware 20db attenuator available on the Digirig to reduce hot audio input."
Can this be at play?
Any other way to boost the audio from the rig’s 1200baud pin to the digirig?
You can check the attenuator setting on the back of the PCB. By default, it is not enabled (no cut between the pads) so if you or somebody else didn’t activate it then it is not active. Even with attenuator active you should be getting some audio level.
You ruled out the Digirig itself and it’s unlikely that all of the cables are faulty. For good measure you can try audio loopback through the cable you are using as shown here:
The next possibility is that the radio’s accessory port doesn’t work correctly or something is not right with the settings. I don’t see an easy way to test that, I’d use a scope to poke and see what comes out.
Thanks for confirming my suspicion that there is something wrong with the output from the rig itself.
I will drop the rig at an electronics repair shop on Monday. I don’t have a scope nor competence to use one.
I hae now tried with two other rigs, Kenwoods, TM-D700 and TM-G707 and neither give any audio out, neither 1200 nor 9600 pin.
So I brought out a cheap Ugreen soundcard and made up a new cable only to the microphone in into that soundcard from the 1200 baud pin on the mini din.
I get good audio into the computer this way.
I opened the Digirig up and I see a pair of pads marked ATT. If I understand you right, they activate the attenuator when separated. Correct? In this case I have attenuator active?
Just solder between the pads and I should be good?
The ATT pads are connected by default (attenuator disabled). That connection is just covered with the black solder mask so it looks like there is none.
With your additional troubleshooting the suspicion falls on the Digirig. I’ll take a look at it. Please PM for the arrangements.
Interested in this, I kind of have the opposite problem though, it’s like the Digirig doesn’t hear anything via the DIN connection. I’m sure it’s a simple setting someplace, I want to like the DR, but not so much yet…
