Yaesu FTdx-5000MP w/digirig. Help with settings

Just curious if anyone has been able to get the digirig mobile to work on the Yaesu FTdx-5000MP with WSJT-x ? If so, would you mind sharing your settings for both the radio and WSJT-x? This is about to drive me to drink… not that I need much help with that.
Thank you so much.

Most of the transceiver and WSJT-X settings will be the same across different digital modes interfaces. You can look for the sources that are not specific to Digirig, for example this discussion:

Re: Setting up digital mode on the 5000.

Thank you for the response. The pc running win11 sees the digirig for sound but soon as i hook up FTdx-5000 the com/lpt section in wsjtx nor does aclog. There are no port listed audio and ptt is dead… I’m not having any luck with the radio, digirig or pc. On a normal basis I use wsjt-x and ac-log for logging. I’ve got 2 other digirigs that loads great on my other radios… for the life of me i’m unable to get this one going.

With Digirig Mobile connected to the computer you should see the Silicon Labs COM port in the device manager even before anything is connected on the transceiver side of the interface. If it’s not there, check for any entries with the exclamation mark (driver install needed), toggle visibility for disabled devices and see maybe it was turned off by mistake. If none of that gets the COM port working, please PM me for the RMA and I’ll take a look at your unit.

I am new to digiring, and am having a confusing problem with the FTDX-5000. I did all the setting in the link mentioned in the second post.

I was using it with WSJT-X and HRD. I always had CAT control, but the audio has been hard to sort it out. For a short time, it was working by choosing RTS in the WSJT software and then using the “older radio” setting in HRD to PTT with RST.

Unfortunately, that worked for about 4 QSOs, then a new problem occurred.

The radio seemed locked in to transmit. If I started the radio with the digirig plugged in, the TX light on the transmitter would flash (indicating PTT pressed). If I plugged in the digirig when the radio was already on, the TX light would come on.

I did some experimenting with just using WSJT-X without HRD. Had the same issue regardless of setting in WSJT-X. Until for some reason the opposite thing happened and the PTT now seems to be locked off instead of on.

I did manually short the ground and first ring of the audio plug as a test, and it does trigger the PTT on the radio.

All help appreciated.

Did some more experimenting. I was not able to get WJST-X standalone to work correctly. As soon as it launched, it would turn the TX on. It would read the frequency correctly, but otherwise not control the radio. It turned out that previously when the TX was off I had made a cabling error.

However, eventually HRD radio control with WJST-X started working. The CAT and PTT tests both worked correctly. For PTT, I used CAT, which had not worked before for some reason.

So, I am simultaneously happy, confused, and wondering how long this will last.

Of course, the most likely issue is an error on my part, but glad it is working at least for now.

Thanks

That was fun while it lasted. I tried restarting everything to test if it worked. Unfortunately, the problem with the TX light flashing on the radio (PTT triggered on power up) came back and I was not able to get it to stop. WSJT-X shows CAT working, and the PTT test turns red but has no actual effect.

Really need some help.

Thanks.

the digirig mobile uses the RTS line of the serial/comport for PTT keying.
(the same serial/comport that is used for cat/ci-v/remote/rig control)

so, if the radio ‘keys up’ whenever the digirig mobile is plugged in/PC on, the most likely problem is having ‘flow control’ enabled in whichever software you’re using at the time.

so, see if you can review your rig control setup in each software and set flow control to ‘NONE’ (not rig control, flow control)

that should clear up the radio keying up whenever the digirig mobile is plugged in and software loaded

good luck

Thank you! I took a look and for a reason I do not remember, HRD was configured to use RTS in connection. Removing that appears to have solved the problem at least for now.

Will need a few more attempts to be confident as I have had short term success before, but definitely promising!

Thanks again.

Confirming that all appears to be working correctly. Thank you!
