Your Yaesu FTX-1 is internally equipped with the interface for digital modes. All you need is a USB cable directly to the computer.

From the pictures of the radio it looks like a USB-C type on the transceiver side.

Are there any radio settings that need to be made for Winlink to connect or should the radio auto-select what’s needed?

Winlink setup is quite involved process and there is very little “auto” about it. Luckily there are lots of online tutorials (video and text) on the subject. If you would like to start out with a shallow end of the pool, try FT8 mode using WSJT-X software first.
