My Digirig Lite arrived today and was quickly able to get my WOAD up and running with my Samsung Ultra 24 to Digirig lite to FT2D, but could not get APRSdroid to do the same, I can hear the audio going out from the cellphone but do not see the PTT triggered with Red LED. What am I missing here?
Tnx,
David N4IN
Yeah, I have watched this several times, this was the reason I ordered the Digirig Lite. I agree the hardware is OK just something in the settings or program I need to change.
Actually, I rechecked everything and I was only able to get the Digirig Lite to transmit, red LED to light using my Surface Pro 9 running Winlink express and varaFM. Could not get Digirig Lite to work at all on Samsung S24 Ultra. I sent a message to Dennis asking what might be wrong with the android phone settings.
I’ll reply here so others can benefit from the troubleshooting steps.
Let’s look at the screenshot of APRSdriod Preferences → APRS Connection → AUDIO (AFSK)
I’m also having similar issues. Digirig lite from Android cell phone to a HT. I’ve tried 3 different HT. PTT light comes on, transmit on radio goes. Receiving radio hears signal but will not receive message. Tried changing volume on cell phone and settings in APRSDROID. Using Audio (AFSK) Hi-quality Demodulator, Output Music, Frame sync prefix 200. Not using vox on the HT
Sorry Denis, did not realize you are K0TX, I have the same settings as 1Brian does and no VOX on HT.
It sounds like we’re dealing with two distinct scenarios here:
- David - APRSdroid, no PTT, output audio goes to phone’s speaker
- Brian - APRSdroid, PTT works, output audio heard on remote station, no decode on remote station?
re. no PTT:
re. no decode: please check that the baud rate for APRS packet is the same on both ends (1200/9600)
Would it matter if the audio output on the cellphone was digital and not analog, I started researching Samsung s24 ultra audio output via usb-c, it’s digital and requires DAC usb-c adapter to use headphones
Digirig is a USB codec (DAC + ADC) so that should not be an issue.
On the digirig lite side in APRSdroid I can receive text and positions. I don’t see any Baud in the settings while under AFSK. Still unable to send out of Digirig lite and get anyone to receive it.
APRSdroid I tried changing the Frame sync Prefix from 200 to 10 and then to 1000. No difference.
HT ft3d I did try changing the baud. still no difference.
Brian,
You mentioned that you hear your transmission on your another HT. Are you able to setup APRS station on that radio or drive closer to where you expect your APRS signal to be received?
Yep so my Ft3d HT using aprs works great. I have the radios near each other but the antenna on the digirig is in the other room.
Tried different antenna and hts combinations.
I’m going to try winlink next and try to rule out digirig lite. (Only I’ve never used winlink so learning here we go!)
I am using the digirig cables and the setup works with the digirig mobile using direwolf and pinpoint aprs.
Would an android tablet work with Digirig Lite with either WOAD or APRSdroid also, I may find one to borrow and attempt to see if that will fix this problem?
I had great success running WoAD and APRSdriod on Android with Digirig Lite. You can also find some videos of other operators trying that and sharing the settings.
Alright, Update. WOAD kind of worked intermit it. I think its my Motorola phone having the issues. I changed to my Samsung phone “OLDER” and sending aprs messages works now.
Was hoping it wasn’t the issue but my nicer phone isn’t working as it should.
I am having the same issues. No red Tx light on my FT60, yet I can see the Tx in Aprs.fi. When I send a msg to WXBOT, no red TX light, but the msg shows up in Aprs.fi, along with the reply from WXBOT. APRSdroid has never displayed a reply to WXBOT (I think the replies are supposed to be green, but cannot verify this because I have never received a reply via APRSdroid.
sounds like you’re using “Internet (APRS-IS)” for your connection rather than the radio.
you shouldn’t see messages on any aprsis reporter if you’re using the radio but the radio isn’t keying.
under preferences, connection protocol, you should have “Audio (AFSK)” selected
(digirig is not a TNC, don’t select any TNC choices)
good luck

I have had the same problem, using Samsung S24 Ultra with digirig Lite into my FT2D, was able to get the digirig Lite working with an android tablet, A9+ running latest android 14. Talked with Denis with Digirig and he is aware of this issue, I am bringing my S24 Ultra, digirig Lite and FT2D with me to Huntsville and he will review the setup. But I doubt any hardware issue as it works on my android tablet running APRSdroid.
Hi David,
I’m having the exact same issue with my Google Pixel 8 Pro. The phone isn’t recognizing the Digirig Lite as an audio device. I’ve gotten it to work on older Samsung phones and Windows PCs. The odd part is my DigiRig Mobile is recognized. I suspect you are correct in that is has something to do with the phone not have a DAC and then it doesn’t recognize the DigiRig Lite as one. If you find a work around please post as it may work for me as well.

Did this issue ever get resolved? I can not figure mine out either.
