Feeding audio from the external speaker on my hf rig into my laptop

This is a Yeasu FT-890 HF rig and feeding the audio into Lenovo laptop. The Lenovo has only 1 audio port for input and output. I have the spliter for the input and output for the laptop and a spliter to feed the audio from the external out from the hf rig to an external speaker. When I plug in the audio spliter that feeds the audio to the external speaker the sound is normal volume. When I plug in that spliter into the laptop audio input I have to crank up the volume up full blast on the hf rig to barely hear anything from the external speaker. What gives? And how do I fix it. Also how do I rig the audio out to the hf rig for transmit? BTW You have so many dif cables for sale, I don’t know witch set to get to get the digital auto from/to the FT-890 to my laptop. And my laptop doesn’t have a PTT out to the FT-890 HF rig. Other then manually triggering tx on the laptop and on the ft-890. how to I fix that?

Maybe someone who has a Yaesu FT-890 will comment on your setup.

In the meantime, could you provide more details on whether you are using a Digirig mobile or some other external soundcard? What soundcard mode software are you using, e.g. fldigi, Winlink, wsjt-x?

The Digirig mobile can usually let you port audio in and out and pull PTT for TX through a USB connection to the computer. The setup depends on the radio, cables, and software.

Here is a discussion of the FT-890:

I don’t know what kind of sound card is on the motherboard of this laptop. The last time I ran the sound card programs was on a Dell laptop and the receive worked ok. I am running the same sound card driven programs on the Lenovo laptop. I only have 1 spliter for the laptop i need to get a 2nd spliter on payday on Sept 3rd when my direct deposit comes into my bank.

Most users here switched to using the Digirig to avoid problems with using the computer’s on-board sound card for TX/RX of digital audio modes.

You still have not mentioned a digital communication program.
Are you trying to record your on-air QSOs on the computer, or play pre-recorded messages?

BTW I also have RTTY.

OK, great, thanks for explaining.

BTW what is Digirig

Digirig is a digital modes interface for ham radio.

Where can I buy a pre made Digirig interface for my FT-890 hf rig? since I can’t solder anymore?

Please check Digirig Store – digirig , but from the previous discussion, there is not a pre-made cable for the FT-890 in the Digirig Store.
