KX2 settings for Winklink express.pdf (324.3 KB)
I have a KX3 and have been trying various settings - including those in the pdf referenced here. It seems quite promising - using VARA HF - the freq is properly set, the radio goes in to transmit - but stays in transmit for the 10 retries - and then indicates that it failed to connect - and the radio comes out of transmit. I suspect that I am missing a radio setting… The setup is working for FT8 (with a RPi). I normally use Winlink with a Yaesu radio - but it is in for repairs…
Not really sure what “K3” refers to in PTT settings. Is there an option for COM15 with RTS checked?
Thank you for the suggestion. Choosing the comm port - RMS Express complains that I have two things trying to use the same comm port - and that didn’t work… On the Radio - I set the VOX GN to 0 - and now the radio goes in and out of transmit appropriately. I haven’t made a connection yet - though I have tried the usual Servers. But my antenna is a ham stick mounted on a wire fence. I will try a proper dipole and see if I am more successful.
(RMS Express has some options for K2, K3, and a generic Elecraft. I found a link suggesting I use K3. There is not an option for KX3).

Using radio’s VOX is an option, but not the best one. With Digirig Mobile you should be able to key up via either a CAT command or by activating RTS signal of the serial port. The comments in the below video indicate that K3 is a working option for PTT:
If the radio keys up, but there is no connection the issue may be related to RF conditions.
You can see if your signal is heard on the air by monitoring some of the web SDRs on the same frequency, preferably around the same area where your target digipeater is.
