Digirig and FT-891 with VaraHF

I am having some difficulties setting up the new FT-891 digirig with Winlink Vara HF. I got the CAT control to work, but since the new digirig is specifically built for the FT-891 and there is no COM port for it, how do I set it up with Winlink Vara HF? Any advise would help. Thank you.

Here’s a way to use PTT by GPIO3 of Digirig DR-891 or Digirig Lite:

  1. in Vara Setup enable RA-Board PTT:

  1. In Sound Card setup select Digirig’s sound devices and board 1:

The PTT Port setting in last screen may be switching PTT method to PTT by CAT. Setting it to “External”, which I think falls back to RA-Board PTT, also works. I’m not personally experienced with Winlink so maybe somebody who uses it regularly can chime in on this.
